🍺 Beer #4989: Cloudship Hazy IPA (3.75)

When you return to a city you once called home, the brewery checklist comes out immediately.

During our 12 years living in the Denver metro area, I made it a mission to visit every brewery in town. My trusty spreadsheet and Untappd kept the record straight as the list slowly grew.

And now, 30 months after moving away, a few new breweries — and a few new taprooms — have appeared.

One stop felt obvious.

🍻 Odell at Sloan’s Lake

I’ve always been a big fan of Odell Brewing Company, so their newer location at Sloan’s Lake was an easy choice.

Sloan’s Lake itself is a bit of an oddity in Denver.

You see… there’s not a lot of water in Colorado.

Which, if I’m being honest, is one of the reasons we now live in Florida. 😄

But Sloan’s Lake provides a rare patch of waterfront scenery just outside downtown Denver, making it a fantastic spot for a brewery patio.

🍺 The Double Keg Kick

I stepped up to the bar with a plan.

“Oktoberfest, please.”

And then…
The keg kicked.

Okay, no problem. I asked for another beer.

That keg?
Also kicked.

Honestly, that’s a good problem for a brewery to have.

It means people are drinking the beer faster than they can pour it — and if you know Odell, you know they make excellent beer.

🌫️ The Backup Plan: Cloudship Hazy IPA

With two beers already gone for the day, I pivoted to Cloudship Hazy IPA.

Great choice.

JT Hazy Breakdown:

  • Drinkability level: Smooth and approachable
  • Hop profile: Juicy without overwhelming
  • Setting synergy: Ideal rooftop beer
  • JT rating: 3.75

A well-balanced hazy that fit the moment perfectly.

🌇 Rooftop Rule #1

I grabbed my pint and headed upstairs to the rooftop patio.

Because JT has a rule:

If there’s a rooftop patio, I’m usually on it.

And this one delivered.

  • Excellent weather
  • Excellent view
  • Excellent beer

Three excellent things in a row feels like a win.

🏔️ Colorado Beer Nostalgia

Returning to Denver always brings back memories of the early chapters of the 50 Beers to 5000 journey.

Many of the beers logged over the years were discovered here — at breweries, patios, mountain towns, and neighborhood taprooms across the state.

Even after moving away, the Colorado beer scene still feels like part of the story.

🍺 JT Final Thoughts

Beer #4989 earns a 3.75.

But the experience?
Even better.

Two kegs kicked before I could order.
A new Odell taproom to explore.
A rooftop patio overlooking one of Denver’s rare lakes.

Excellent beer.
Excellent weather.
Excellent view.

Sometimes the simple moments are the best ones.

Cheers! 🍻
