🏰 The Secret Stop: Lacock Village

Sometimes the best beers aren’t planned — they happen while your tour group heads off to chase Harry Potter filming spots.

While the rest of the bus wandered through movie history, I ducked into The George Inn, a pub established in 1361 — yes, you read that right. The U.S. is barely an adolescent compared to this place. Low ceilings, creaky floors, and timber beams that have seen more toasts than I can count.

The barman hand-pumped a 6X Wadworth while telling me the story of their famous dog wheel — a centuries-old contraption once used to turn a spit over the fire using an actual dog running inside a wheel. Thankfully, that bit of “innovation” has long been retired.

🍺 Beer #4965: 6X Wadworth Cask Ale

Style: Traditional English Cask Ale
ABV: 4.1%
Rating: 3.5 / 5.0

The pour was dark amber, smooth, and steady — that unmistakable cask stillness that feels like time itself slows down.

I carried my pint out to the beer garden, where a local musician was strumming through Sunday tunes and tables were packed with families and dogs.

There, I spotted a black English Cocker Spaniel that looked just like our dog Wally back home in Florida. Caught a bit of it on video — because of course I did.

JT’s Vibe Notes:

  • Vibe Check: Sunshine + centuries of pub culture = magic.
  • Drinkability: High — smooth and sessionable.
  • Flavor: Mildly malty, with just enough depth to pair with a lazy afternoon.
  • Surprise Factor: Medium — the beer was good, but the moment was outstanding.
  • Emotional Bonus: Texting with the kids on Father’s Day while sipping history.

🎶 The Soundtrack of the Stop

The musician’s voice drifted across the garden, laughter floated between tables, and I realized how perfectly English the scene was.

No rush. No schedule. Just sunshine, song, and a pint pulled with care.

🧭 Reflections on Beer #4965

It wasn’t just the beer — it was the setting. A pub older than my country, a kind bartender spinning local lore, a pint that felt like a bridge across centuries.

And on this Father’s Day, connecting with my kids from across the ocean while a dog that looked like ours wagged through the garden — well, that’s the stuff you don’t forget.

Having a blast, with beer!
