🍺 From Dreamy to Grapefruity

Beer #4954 – the epic Bermondsey Beer Mile journey came with a twist — and no, I’m not talking about the beer. I’m talking about the bachelor party that walked into The Barrel Project like a scene straight out of “The Hangover: East London Edition.” More on that in a second.

First, the beer: Daydreamer Session IPA by London Barrel Project.
The name? Smooth. The branding? Classy. The taste?
Well, let’s just say it went a little too far into grapefruit grove territory for this guy’s palate. But let’s back up — the setting deserved its own moment first.

🛢️ Enter: The Barrel Project

If you’re the type who swoons at the sight of reclaimed wood and craft beer chalkboards, The Barrel Project will feel like home. It’s the barrel room and taproom for London Barrel Project, and let me tell you — it’s designed to impress.

Walk in, and you’re immediately surrounded by barrels stacked floor to ceiling on either side. It’s part wine cellar, part rustic lodge, part modern-day beer lab. There’s something about sipping beer while literally surrounded by the vessels used to ferment and age other brews that makes the whole experience feel more… intentional.

If Southwark Brewing (Stop #1) was about tradition and comfort, The Barrel Project was about bold design and next-level presentation.

🎉 Bride-to-Be… or Groom?

Now, let’s talk about the moment that told Lori and me this day was about to get weird — in the best possible way.

As we grabbed a table, a bachelor party rolled in, and the bachelor was dressed — I kid you not — like a bride. Full veil. White dress. Bouquet (maybe). I’ve seen a lot of things during beer crawls, and this group had the right energy. They were clearly starting strong — and judging by the volume, costumes, and beer-to-hand ratio, they had no intention of pacing themselves.

It was chaotic, ridiculous, and absolutely perfect for a sunny Saturday in London.

This moment set the tone:
The Bermondsey Beer Mile is not just a beer tour. It’s a rolling street party fueled by hops, laughter, and zero inhibitions.

🍊 Tasting Notes: Daydreamer Session IPA

Back to the beer.
Daydreamer is a Session IPA, which typically means lighter ABV and a balanced profile for day drinking. This one?
✅ Light body
✅ Slight haze
✅ Bright citrus aromas
✅ Dry finish
❌ Too. Much. Grapefruit.

I know plenty of people love that tart, punchy grapefruit note in their IPAs. But for me, it just dominated the palate and overpowered what could have been a delicate, drinkable base.

Still — I respect the craft, and if you’re a fan of West Coast-style bite or citrus-forward flavors, you’d probably love this one.

JT Rating: 3.5
Lori’s take: “It’s pretty! And I love grapefruit!”

📋 Big Board Energy

One of the things that stood out most about The Barrel Project?
Their beer list. It was deep, diverse, and overwhelming in the best possible way. I’d like to go back and try several, or the entire board.

Seriously, if you’re the type of drinker who likes to sample different flavor profiles — this is your spot.

🔄 The Power of Stop #2

Every beer crawl has a turning point. For us, Stop #2 was when the fun really kicked in. The vibe, the crowd, the design, and yes, the bridegroom — all reminded us that this was more than a checklist. It was an experience, a moment-in-the-making.

I wasn’t just sipping beer. I was documenting the atmosphere, the crowd, the creativity — and finding ways to soak it all in. That’s what 50 Beers to 5000 is about. Not perfection. Just the pursuit. One beer. One story. One ridiculous dress-up bachelor party at a time.

🔚 Wrapping Up Stop #2

So far, we’re 2-for-2 on unforgettable experiences on the Mile.

Southwark Brewing gave us the perfect start.
The Barrel Project gave us the first plot twist.

And we are just getting warmed up.

Next up: Something hazy, something hoppy, and maybe a dog or two. Bermondsey Beer Mile doesn’t wait for you to catch your breath — and honestly, that’s part of the fun.
