Beer #4964: Wainwright Wanderer (Cask Ale)

Location: The Ale House, Bath, England
Vibe: Pre-parade anticipation, pub chatter, pints in the square
Mood: Relaxed, amused, slightly rushed
🍻 The Calm Before the Rugby Storm
Bath was buzzing. Flags, banners, blue-and-black scarves fluttering in every window — the Bath Rugby victory parade was an hour away, and you could feel the pulse of celebration building in the streets.
So naturally, I ducked into The Ale House, right off the square, for one last pint before the inevitable chaos.
The place was lively but not yet overrun. Locals were staking out patio tables, servers were polishing glasses, and I was doing what I do best — ordering something new and hoping my bus didn’t leave without me.
By the way, Bath is an amazing little town in the countryside. Highly recommend you stop if you get a chance.
🍺 Beer #4964: Wainwright Wanderer
Style: Cask Ale
ABV: Around 3.4%
Rating: 3.25 / 5.0
The Wainwright Wanderer arrived in perfect form — amber-gold, a soft head, and that gentle carbonation that only a true cask pour delivers.
First sip: light, crisp, and, well… a little too polite. It’s the kind of beer that whispers rather than sings.
But hey — I’m not a hater. Sometimes subtlety has its moment.
On a sunny patio with good conversation and no ticking clock, this would be a fine companion. But in the rush before a rugby parade, I wanted just a touch more kick.
JT’s Vibe Notes:
- Drinkability: Off the charts — goes down like water.
- Flavor punch: Minimal. Like a whisper in a crowded bar.
- Surprise factor: Low, but solid craftsmanship.
- Crowd energy: Rising — Bath fans in full voice warming up for parade time.
- Regret factor: Only that I couldn’t stay longer.
🏉 Rugby Merch & Bandwagon Moments
After finishing my pint, I wandered Bath’s streets one last time, caught between beer buzz and fan fever. Every shop had Bath Rugby gear flying off the racks.
Thanks to the motivation from our fun friends at The Huntsman, I snagged one of the last Bath Rugby T-shirts, because jerseys were £150 and I’m not that committed to my newfound fandom. Call me a bandwagoner — but for one sunny afternoon, I was all in.
The parade horns were tuning up, the chants were starting, and our bus driver was tapping his watch. Time to roll.

🚍 The Road Ahead
As the bus pulled away, Bath’s cheers echoed through the open windows — a fitting soundtrack to the day.
Beer #4964 wasn’t a fireworks beer, but it fit the moment. A calm, easy cask before the celebration chaos. Sometimes, the beer’s not the headline — it’s the space it fills between memories.
And that, my friends, is how you close out a city visit:
One more story logged.
One pint,
One new T-shirt,
Bath delivered one of the best quick afternoon stops of my life.
We enjoyed several pints and glasses of wine in Bath. This was the other trackable pint – a Lumina IPA. And be sure to scan the entire Master Beer Log when you get a chance. We’re on our way to 5000!
