Beer #4956: Hiver Blonde Ale @ Hiver Brewing (Bermondsey Beer Mile)
From the Desk of JT, the Beer Logger (B-Logger)
Mission: Having a blast, with beer!
Beer #: 4956
Location: Hiver Beer, Bermondsey, London
Beer: Blonde Ale (Honey Beer)
Vibe: Sunny patio chaos
Mood: Skeptical turned surprised
🍺 Stop 4 of the Bermondsey Beer Mile
Beer #4956 found me at Hiver Beer — right before heading over to Anspach & Hobday (Stop 5). This was Stop 4 of the Bermondsey Beer Mile, and honestly, I came in suspicious. Honey beer? Sounds a lot like mead. And mead? Not my jam. Mead tastes like something the Knights of the Round Table swigged before jousting. Me? I’m just trying to SNIFF SIP CHUG my way to 5,000 without feeling like I need a suit of armor.
🎉 The Pint, The Process
But hey — I gave the Blonde Ale its fair chance. And the SNIFF SIP CHUG was executed flawlessly, if I may say so myself.
- Vibe Check: Patio pint under the sun, London felt almost Mediterranean.
- Drinkability Level: Better than expected, but not one I’d run back for seconds.
- Surprise Factor: It wasn’t mead (thank the beer gods).
- Crowd Energy: Loud, boisterous, and fun — classic Beer Mile chaos.
My final rating: 3.25. Respectable, but not a new favorite. Here’s the twist though: I want to try more from Hiver. This Blonde Ale wasn’t my thing, but I bet they’ve got other brews I’d love. #supportlocal means giving breweries more than one shot.
🌞 Patio Goals
The real star here wasn’t the beer — it was the patio. Hands down, this has to be the largest patio on the Bermondsey Beer Mile. And it was absolutely buzzing. Sun blazing, tables packed, voices bouncing off the arches, and laughter spilling over the street. 27 degrees C, and lots of sun.
If you’re Beer Mile crawling with a crew, Hiver’s patio is your rally point. Think of it as the Beer Mile’s unofficial town square. Big energy, big crowd, and just enough chaos to remind you you’re in London.
For comparison, Smash Paddle later on the Mile has a similar outdoor vibe, but more sectioned off. Hiver’s setup felt like a community, more like a beer festival compressed into a single patio.
🛢️ Takeaway
Sometimes, the beer isn’t the highlight — and that’s okay. Beer #4956 wasn’t a world-changer, but the experience was a win. The patio, the people, the vibe — that’s what will stick with me.
And hey, Hiver, I’ll be back for another round (or three).
