Beer #4951 Young’s London Original @ The Eagle: The 1st Stop on a Unique Brew Crawl
“You’ve got to start somewhere. I chose a London beer garden, a sunny day, and a proper pint.”
🎯 What Is 50 Beers to 5000?
This is beer number 4,951 on my journey to 5,000 beers. I’m not starting at 1 — I’m starting where I actually am in the UNTAPPD world. That’s the whole point. UNTAPPD username = buffmeister.
50 beers.
50 blog posts.
One countdown.
One rating at a time… after A Sniff, A Sip, & A Chug.
This isn’t about becoming a beer expert or decoding grain origins. It’s about enjoying life, one beer at a time.
📍 Where It All Begins: The Eagle, Shepherd’s Bush, London
This inaugural beer was enjoyed at The Eagle, a pub nestled in Shepherd’s Bush, West London. You might not find it on every tourist map, but if you’re looking for a massive beer garden, cozy vibes, and a place where even the pigeons seem chilled, you’re in luck.

🪴 London’s Best Beer Garden? Maybe.
- Biggest garden we found in London
- Lots of mature trees for shade and ambiance
- Plenty of tables and proper umbrellas
- Unique “My Place” and “Your Place” huts with cushions and privacy
- Dog-friendly, though the dogs weren’t sharing their snacks
It was sunny, which in London probably meant I should’ve bought a lottery ticket.
🍽️ Lunch with Lori (and Beer and Wine)
My wife Lori and I found a quiet corner in the beer garden. She had a couple of glasses of wine (classy). I had a pint of Young’s London Original (also classy, in my opinion) and another mystery pint. There was food. Surprisingly good food! We hit the tail end of their Summer Set Menu. Let’s just say, the pork, apple, & leek Scotch egg, followed by the Chicken Schnitzel, and finished off with Bramley Apple & raspberry crumble set us up quite well for the rest of day. Bloody brilliant. And only 22 quid.

🍻 The Beer: Young’s London Original (Beer #4951)
Let’s talk about the beer that kicked this all off.
🔎 Style: Blonde / Golden Ale – English
ABV: 3.7%
Brewery: Eagle Brewery
💥 A Sniff, A Sip, and A Chug:
Clean finish. Dangerously sessionable. Perfect for a sunny garden pint with minimal thinking and maximum relaxing. That might be my new tag line — “minimal thinking and maximum relaxing.”
⭐ My Rating (The Non-Scientific System)
🏆 Chugworthy? Yes.
📍 Would I order it again at The Eagle? Without hesitation.
📦 Would I buy it at home? Sure, for a classic British beer night.
🎯 Overall Beer #4951 Score: 3.75 / 5 (Maybe a bit high. I was in a good beer garden mood.)
(Bonus points for the sun, setting, shade, and a satisfying summer set menu.)

Final Thoughts: A Pint with Purpose
This blog isn’t about unlocking alpha acids or ranking glassware. It’s about fun, flavor, and the joy of drinking good beer in good places with good people.
So here it is: beer #4951. The first of 50 posts in the run-up to beer #5000. A public countdown of private pints.
Will they all be good? Probably not. Will they all be memorable? I will make sure of that.
